Narrow River Preservation Association is seeking VOLUNTEERS to plant salt marsh grass seedlings as the next phase of the Salt Marsh Restoration Project in lower Narrow River.

Last fall, US Fish and Wildlife Service (USF&W) collected seeds from local salt marsh grasses that were planted and have been growing at a local nursery. Soon 35,000 seedlings will be ready to plant!
This is the next critical phase in protecting the salt marshes against sea level rise.
In late April or early May (depending on weather) USF&W will need teams of 25-35 volunteers to plant seedlings over a two or three day period. We're now looking for interested volunteers so that when the time is right, we can reach out to interested folks with a planting schedule.

You can help!  Here's how:

STEP 1: Complete the volunteer signup form by clicking here (only 9 simple questions!)
STEP 2: Wait for the weather to warm up
STEP 3: Receive an email from us with dates and times of planting sessions and sign up for the time(s) and date(s) you like!
STEP 4: Come at your chosen time and plant!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will it be messy?  Definitely!  Wear rubber boots and dress for the weather.

Do I need to bring anything? Only yourself. USF&W will provide everything we need to plant as well as snacks and drinking water.

Can my kids come?  Yes, children are welcome! Kids under age 18 will need a parent to sign a waiver, and we can send you that paperwork ahead of time. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

I have a group, can we all come?  Yes! Just note the approximate size of your group in the volunteer signup form.

My group can only come for an hour, is that ok?  Yes!  We appreciate any time you can help out. Just let us know in the volunteer signup form.

Where will we be planting? Areas of focus will be along the shoreline south of Middlebridge as well as on Sedge Island. For those volunteers who take the boat to Sedge Island, personal flotation devices will be provided by USF&W.

How can I learn more about the salt marsh restoration project?  The incredible aerial video (below) by Ray Stachelek shows the dredging and salt marsh restoration project progress to date.
